Description:
Faces of the Moon No. 1 is an original hand-carved linocut print, exploring the timeless human tendency to see a face in the moon.
Across cultures and centuries, people have looked up at the night sky and imagined the moon’s markings forming a human expression — often called the Man in the Moon. In this artwork, the phases of the moon are reinterpreted as a sequence of human faces gradually moving through light and shadow.
As darkness slowly travels across each face, the lunar cycle unfolds — turning phases into faces and revealing how deeply our imagination connects us to the natural world.
This piece is printed using the traditional linocut technique, an analogue printmaking method that has been used by artists for over a century. The design is first carved by hand into a linoleum block, inked with oil-based printing ink, and then pressed onto paper.
The process is slow and tactile, leaving behind subtle textures, variations, and marks that make every print slightly different.
Only three original prints of this design exist, making this a rare and highly collectible artwork for lovers of handmade printmaking and meaningful wall art.
