New Colours

About life’s transitions — the moments that shift our perspective and redefine who we are. Inspired by my own journey into motherhood, these paintings capture the beauty, complexity, and emotional depth of change.

Something has changed

New Colours is a collection of 15 textured oil paintings that explores life’s transitions — the pivotal moments that redefine who we are. These are the times when everything suddenly shifts, and the world appears transformed; colours seem different, familiar thoughts rearrange themselves, and life takes on a new shape.

We are not the same anymore

For me, a transformation like that came with motherhood. Overnight, my world changed — I was no longer just myself, but a mother. Everyone in my family had new roles, new titles, and life took on an entirely new rhythm.

The initial sketches for this series were made when my daughter was only a month old. She would only nap on me during the day, and I found myself spending long hours on the couch, sketchbook in hand, quietly observing this new world we had entered together.

Now, after more than a year at home caring for my baby, she has started daycare. Releasing New Colours marks the end of my maternity leave — and with it, the close of one chapter and the beginning of another. This collection is the third and last collection inspired by my daughter I’m releasing for the time being.

Navigating through change

Every piece in this collection reflects moments of change, vulnerability, and rediscovery. Parenthood, like many of life’s transitions, brings both beauty and difficulty. Through these works, I wanted to capture the emotional complexity of change — how it can be tender and challenging, disorienting yet full of wonder.

Change is never simple, but it is always transformative. And sometimes, it’s through these new colours that we truly begin to see ourselves.

The process

Each painting is created on a wooden board coated with crushed pumice, a volcanic stone that gives the surface a raw, organic texture. Soft layers of oil paint are then applied in muted tones, creating the illusion of artwork painted on weathered stone or an aged wall.

This collection consists of 15 original oil paintings.
