Vessels of the Earth
About honouring the energy of winter and the season of rest.
Archetypal Containers
Vessels of the Earth is a series of original oil paintings, prints and curated art sets inspired by ceramic vessels, winter landscapes, and the quiet rhythms of the natural world. Rooted in folk art traditions and slow-living values, this series explores themes of rest, containment, and the unseen potential held beneath the surface of things.
Each painting features a single vessel rendered in warm, earthy tones of brown, beige, stone, and ash-grey. These forms recall ancient pottery, handmade ceramics, and archetypal containers found across cultures - timeless and grounded shapes.
Honouring the Energy of Winter and the Season of Rest
Vessels of the Earth is inspired by the energy of winter: a season of slowness, dormancy, and deep rest. While winter may appear still or heavy on the surface, the earth is alive beneath — holding seeds, memory, and the promise of renewal. These vessels act as symbols of that state of waiting, honouring rest as a necessary and sacred phase of the natural cycle.

The process
The paintings in this collection are all painted on wooden boards coated with a thick layer of crushed pumice rocks, to create a very unique texture - pumice is a kind of volcanic rock, that is created in eruptions - and a final layer of oil paint is gently painted on top of the pumice.
